The highly acclaimed African hitmaker, Atongo Zimba performs at a special series of shows this coming autumn. The dates are produced in partnership with Nottinghamshire, Lincolnshire and Leicestershire Rural Touring Partnership.

The Ghanaian singer songwriter accompanies himself on the Molo, a two-stringed calabash banjo, along with two great UK based musicians. His voice is raw and bluesy and the music is a swinging fusion of traditional Ghanaian music with Afrobeat, jazz and funk. His live shows are punctuated with great humour, his charisma and stories of Africa.
Atongo composes and sings in his native Fra Fra, Hausa, Ga, English and Twi. The themes of his songs include power and respect in inter-personal and inter-ethnic relationships, issues of every day life and development for Ghana and Africa generally as well as romantic love and spirituality.
He has released two internationally acclaimed albums, Savannah Breeze and Barefoot in the Sand, which was nominated "African CD of the Year" in 2007 by Amsterdam television. His recording of ‘No Beer in Heaven’ was a major hit in Ghana. He played in Ghana during the 80’s and 90’s with Osibisa and the Pan African Orchestra amongst others and even the Afro Funk legend Fela Kuti.
Now based in the UK, Atongo has now put together a band of UK based leading world musicians to deliver a great night out of danceable Afro-funk & roots.
