Move over Mackintosh and Webber there’s a new kid on the block!

I had the pleasure of seeing Steve Steinman’s new musical Eternal Love at the Hull New Theatre on Friday 24th January. I’m no stranger to Steinman’s productions but this is by far his biggest project to date. Introducing an all-original soundtrack and book written by Steinman.

A real rock musical with real rock singers was a breath of fresh air, with so many juke box musicals making their way around the theatre circuit. Surely the West End beckons for this truly great, fun new show.

It has it all, amazing songs, powerful performances, comedy, witty satire and drama all played throughout the show. Yes, the story is frivolous in parts, but it has charm, and the audience lapped it up. It’s no Phantom or Le Mis, nor does it try to be but equally as professional and staged.

The cast are just a pleasure to watch giving 100 percent energy into a faultless performance.
Steve Steinman plays Baron Von Rockula, a roll he’s played now for almost 25 years. He does it with ease and had the audience eating out of the palm of his hand.
John Evans plays Bosley, the Barons side kick who brought great fun and humour into the show, and boy can he sing!
Claire Zamore plays Zina, one of the female leads in the production, who put on a magnificent performance throughout.
Tanyth Roberts plays Medusa, another fabulous leading lady. Her incredible rendition of ‘We’re not Made to not Break’ gave me goosebumps, just one of the many incredible original songs in the show.
The cast of dancers also impressed me, the choreography was top notch. Amy Jackson was mesmerising to watch, with such wonderful animation and her enthusiasm was infectious.

The show is backed by Steinman’s own band, a real rock band, I might add, which makes for a real rock concert experience too.

In summary, theatre or rock fans would love this high energy, very funny, entertaining show.

It was a thoroughly enjoyable Friday evening in Hull and given the standing ovation at the end of the evening, I would say the capacity crowd would agree – Well done and 5 Stars from me!

Book now before you can’t get a seat for love nor money! My prediction is that Steinman has hit the Jackpot with this one!
