HYDE & BEAST
ANNOUNCE OCTOBER UK TOUR
Following the release of their critically acclaimed album ‘Keep Moving’
Hyde & Beast announce a headline tour of the UK this October
‘The main influences on Keep Moving are early Seventies - both “Blue” and the title track ride T.Rex-style boogies, while the lovely “Open Your Heart” has a bad finger-esque flavour… It’s impressively designed, and performed with diverse instrumental smarts.’ - 4/5 The Independent

‘Doubtless an abiding love of T.Rex and a sneaking love for some of the more ephemeral hits of the day also play a part in shaping the duo’s politely psychedelic pop. Lovers of fuzzy guitar riffs and well-crafted pop hooks need look no further.’ - Sunday Times Culture

‘A set of rootsy late-‘60s/early-70s classic pop that bears comparison with some hefty names… ‘Keep Moving’ wears its love of late-period Beatles on its sleeve, and there are echoes too of T Rex in ‘Blue’’s airy boogie.’ – NME

‘An assuming and endearingly intimate, psychedelic/chamber-pop gem… stuffed with great hooks and riffs with a 1960s and 1970s edge (Marc Bolan, The Beatles and Elton John) but has a dreamily melancholic quality that reveals heartache and loss.’ - 4/5 - Metro

‘Beautifully rich vocals that show off an impressive range combine with country-blues guitars on this life-affirming track.’ - 4/5 The Sun

‘The sun-dappled blasts of brass and piano riffs…makes the likes of ‘Blue’ and ‘Open Your Heart’ bona fide pop monsters, the kind you blast out of rolled down car windows as you head down the seafront in the middle of July without a care in the world.’ - 8/10 - Drowned In Sound

Hyde and Beast released their second studio album ‘Keep Moving’ on 4th August to critical acclaim. The album has been ‘Album of the Day’ on 6Music, and the title track was ‘Single of the Week’ on Shaun Keaveny’s breakfast show. It was also b-listed at Amazing Radio. Other support has come from XFM’s John Kennedy and 6Music’s Marc Riley, Lauren Laverne, Steve Lamacq and Tom Ravenscroft.

Hyde and Beast are Dave Hyde (The Futureheads) and Neil Bassett (The Golden Virgins). ‘Keep Moving’ draws together infectious pop hooks and instantly memorable choruses seemingly synched to festival campfire playlists, most notably on the carousing Crosby, Stills & Nash-infused piano riffs of ‘Open Your Heart’. Says Hyde: "It's got the lyric, 'Would you Adam and Eve it?/ Believe that it's true/ I could never believe it when you said we were through.' It's asking someone to open up and let it out, to talk - it's about breaking up with your missus." Heartbreak is a recurring theme on the second studio album from this drummer-turned-songwriting duo.

"We didn't want to leave everything dark," says Bassett. "’Keep Moving’ is what life's all about - you keep going, even when things are tough. It's our way of saying, 'Despite what's happened, we're not sad about things.' We're both positive people. We're both happy. We try to look on the bright side if we can. You always write about what happens to you, so the lyrics are on the downside but they're sung in an upbeat manner."

So despair and hope in one neat little package, then. The story: two drummers, two songwriters and a whole lotta heartbreak. Would you Adam and Eve it? Come and see them with your own eyes at one of the following headline shows this October. Tickets go on sale at 9am on Friday 15th August.
