Formed in early 2009, the Manchester collective ‘State of Rhymes’ are one of the most exciting live bands to emerge in recent times from the city. Their mission is to bring a fresh and alternative sound to the British hip hop music scene, breaking the stereotypical representation most have of hip hop acts.
The 7-piece alternative live hip hop band consists of a dedicated and talented group of musicians which include lyricists XS.iF and D Dot X, turntablist EdSet, Lord Byron on bass, Finch on guitar and Loki on synth. Together they form the blood and guts of this eclectic bunch. Their influences as you can imagine are wide ranging, however the collective bring together a fusion of sounds and styles depicting every musical genre, but staying true to the foundations of hip hop.
The raw energy of their performances is infectious and engaging, breathing new life into live hip hop with their own brand. In time, State of Rhymes aims to be at the frontier of live British hip hop.

State of Rhymes very own XS.iF released his debut solo album The Hip Hop Disciple on WithMe Music record label. BBC - "his music is stylish and captivating, while his rhymes are slick and intriguing – all of which adds up to making 'The Hip Hop Disciple' something of an essential listen." The album is out on general release and is available in all good record shops, online on iTunes, Amazon, Raphsody, Juno etc and has been distributed in US, Germany and Australia.
