Some Details...

Fresh from headlining the Dublin episode of Michael McIntyre's Comedy Roadshow (BBC1), multi award-winning Irish superstar comic

A skilled raconteur, Tiernan rose to prominence in 1998 when he beat Ed Byrne, Peter Kay and Al Murray to win the coveted Perrier Award at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Winning Edinburghs comedy gong automatically results in a flood of radio and TV offers, and while other 90s winners such as League Of Gentlemen, Lee Evans, Steve Coogan and Frank Skinner, made the transition to mainstream TV, Tommy has never made that leap. This was, however, his decision.

"Doing those kind of shows [Mock The Week, 8 Out Of 10 Cats, QI] is not a skill Ive developed, I enjoy watching the shows, and I love seeing Sean Lock, but its not my area - my strengths are in live shows, I enjoy it more."

The show he took to Edinburgh this year was Crooked Man - but don't read too much into the title.

"Crooked Man is just a name," says the Irishman. "I give things titles for different territories and its Crooked Man in England. People think its a meaningful title, but I dont know why its called that. Its not set in stone its set in fast-fading ink. It could change ... although, yes, I have had the tour posters printed."

While shows wrapped around major themes or key events - from grand political investigations to simple gestures - are highly popular with acts and audiences, the poetic Tommy prefers to avoid such restrictions.

"Is there a theme or a thread running through the show?" he ponders. "I wouldnt be able to discern if there was, Im constantly darting from one subject to the next, but I guess what does underline the show is a world view I have - although Im not entirely sure what that is."

Tommy's live shows are simply legendary. He has an instinctive way of crafting words to bring his anecdotes to vivid life and make the jokes truly resonate. To spend time in this man's company is an unmissable treat. If you're a fan of comedy that keeps you on your toes but also delivers big time then Tommy's high intensity, high octane shows are for you, but like anything that's brilliant because it's dangerous his comedy is not for the faint-hearted.
