Some Details...

WAYNE FONTANA

In the summer of 1962 a young Mancunian, Glyn Geoffrey Ellis (Wayne Fontana) attended an audition at the Oasis Club in Manchester. His group, The Jets however failed to turn up, and Wayne had to quickly recruit the services of other musicians already there. This outfit hastily named Wayne Fontana & The Mindbenders, impressed Fontana Records enough for them to be given a two year recording contract, there and then.
Having signed, they then went on to produce no less than fifteen world-wide hits. Following the initial success of Stop, Look & Listen, their first major hit was Um Um Um Um Um Um. This was followed by The Game Of Love, another massive hit world-wide, which reached number 1 in America, and established them as leading exponents of the 60s beat era.
Despite other hits, however, Wayne Fontana & The Mindbenders parted company in late 1965. Instead of the usual decline which often follows this kind of split, both parties went on to even greater success.
The classic Groovy Kind Of Love dominated the world charts in 1966 for The Mindbenders, and produced another American number 1, whilst Come On Home and Pamela Pamela became massive hits for Wayne.
As we enter the 21st Century, Wayne Fontana is as much in demand now as he has been throughout a long and distinguished career.
