Hot Head Show at University Park Downs

Set on the lush green campus of the University of Nottingham and organised by their very own students union, Sounds on the Downs came into existence five years ago, as a free, eco-powered and alternative way of of encapsulating the euphoria that inevitably accompanies the end of term. The organisers aim was to provide a space for creativity, relaxation and a much needed break from the feel of consumption and corporations that can often come alongside academic study. Each year the mini festival has remained \'off-grid\', powered by the wind and the sun.

The ethos is to promote ethical and environmental issues whilst having fun in the sun. Traditionally Sounds on the Downs has been aimed solely at the students. This year organisers are keen to invite the entire city to party with them to make the most of what has always been an impressive space. If you have no reference for Notts uni parties then you need to check out \'Crave\' – set against the lake on campus and organised by student crew Hoodoo, the nights are still talked about as some of the best outdoor parties Nottingham witnessed.

The 2009 agenda: three arenas spanning the genres. Headlining on the main stage are festival favourites and reputed live act, Imperial Leisure, a raucous combo of ska/hip-hop and rock. If Django Reinhardt is your thing then the jazz/swing sounds of Djangology should get you moving, or check out local talent on the acoustic stage and in the dance tent - with the whole festival powered using renewable energy. Performance artists, stalls selling locally produced food, local community groups, yoga workshops, group graffiti walls and much more will all be representing on the day...and its free of charge!
