Joel Owen at Black Market VenueDate: Sun 11th Apr Time: 20:00 Joel Owen is a twenty one year old singer songwriter hailing from Leicester now living and making his mark in London. Having been actively involved with music from a young age, it was in 2005 that Joel first began writing and performing his uniquely distinctive form of soulful, acoustic folk-blues. Immediately impressing local crowds across the midlands, by 2006 Joel had released his debut album on ‘Musician Records’, an independent label based in Leicester. After a sell out opening night for the release of his album ‘One Of Those Days’ Joel begun to establish his name on the acoustic circuit in Leicester and over the following two years picked up a host of, ‘The next big thing’ and ‘Artist Of The Month’ accolades, performed across the country representing the ‘Leicester Music Scene’ and went onto play three of the midlands biggest festivals. Performances at ‘The Big Session’ and ‘City Acoustic and Blues’ festivals both held at De Montfort Hall were well received and exceptional performances at the Summer Sundae Festival have seen Joel become one of the few artists ever to have been asked back to the festival three years in a row. (2007-08-09) The last eighteen months have been busy for Joel as his influences have continually changed both in music and in life. The idea’s of what could be possible by introducing a band to his songs soon began to form and Joel set about utilising the talent of several other renowned Leicester musicians and putting together the band which played alongside him on the new album, ‘Love and Music’. Following an October release date, excitement has begun to build amongst his ever growing fan base. A surge in air time on Leicester Sound and Demon Fm, a live session and interview on BBC Radio Leicester, a performance on midlands BBC Radio Show 'The Beat', backing from music and culture magazine ‘From Dawn 2 Dusk’, features in the Leicester Mercury as well as support slots with fast rising folk artists such as Mumford and Sons and Alessi's Ark and appearing on the same bill as Noah and The Whale, Jose Gonzalez and Bon Iver, have enabled Joel’s music to reach a wider spread audience and further confirmed that the immediately recognizable vocal and musical sound described by one reviewer as ‘new age blues’ is one becoming well known to many. A passionate performer in both full band and solo set up’s, playing regularly with and without the band across the midlands and the capital, and having recently signed with ‘Coffee Artists’ booking agency, now is an exciting time to know about Joel Owen.
