Strauss wrote his first horn concerto for his father to play in Munich, and it is a young man’s work – bold, confident and full of good tunes.

Sibelius’ 2nd symphony is his most popular, where he first found his personal voice, being influenced more by his native Finland than by other composers. It is a work full of melody and glorious orchestral sound.
