Two amazing blues performers are set to play concerts in Southwell in October, organised by local promoters Rural Roots Music.
Anyone who witnessed Matt Andersen at the 2012 Gate to Southwell Folk Festival, especially his jaw dropping second show where he teamed up for a finale with fellow Canadians Gordie Mackeeman and his Rhythm Boys and which resulted in a queue out of the marquee for his CDs, will be pleased to hear he’s returning to Southwell and can be seen at The Bramley Centre, King Street on Saturday October 4th.
With over 2 million views on YouTube, independent sales over 30,000 albums, a 2013 European Blues Award, and winning Best Solo Performer at the Memphis Blues Challenge, it appears that the entire world is now discovering Matt Andersen. A powerhouse performer with a giant soul-filled voice and commanding stage presence, Matt has built a formidable following the old fashioned way - touring worldwide and letting the converted audiences and Andersen devotees spread his reputation through word of mouth.
Another luminary of the acoustic blues scene will also be returning for his third Southwell appearance, this time at the Admiral Rodney on Sunday October 19th. Catfish Keith, who hails from Iowa, is touring Europe this autumn. One of the most exciting country blues performers of our time, Catfish's innovative style of foot-stomping, deep delta blues and American roots music has spellbound audiences the world over. A two-time W. C. Handy Award nominee for Best Acoustic Blues Album, and an inductee into the Blues Hall of Fame, Catfish packs houses all over the world with his dynamic stage show.
