Barry Adamson at Rescue RoomsDate: Sun 6th Apr Time: 20:00 Sunday 6th April. £15adv. BARRY ADAMSON Barry Adamson’s work as bass player for art punk band Magazine and Nick Cave’s Bad Seeds gave little indication of the complex, cinematic works he would go on to compose as a solo artist. Since leaving the Bad Seeds over twenty years ago. Adamson has been blending post punk, industrial noise, film noir, spy guitar, neo-classical composition, funk, soul, dub, ska, electronica, orchestral wanderings, samples and spoken-word narratives into evocative, jazzy instrumentals. Composing soundtracks for both real and imaginary films, most notably Gas, Food and Lodging (with Dinosaur Jnr’s J Mascis) in 1992 and David Lynch’s Lost Highway in 1997. His cinematic soul reeks of an upbringing in Manchester’s dark Moss Side, a love of smoky film intrigue and Ennio Morricone and John Barry. His music surges and plunges deep enough to make you choke on your popcorn. His new album, Back To The Cat released this month was debuted live in full at the recent London Jazz Festival, headlining two sold-out nights at the Queen Elizabeth Hall. The album, his seventh studio release, finds Adamson in a furious focus, fully embracing a pop sensibility and fusing it with dark, swinging blues, soul, funk, out-jazz and filmic takes. www.barryadamson.com Rescue RoomsMasonic PlaceNottingham Nottinghamshire NG1 5GG (more) Would you like to see more information about Rescue Rooms?
