Some Details...
The 8th Hemlock Happening will take place in Bramcote Hills Park on Saturday 6th June. This fantastic free family day out will run from
1.00pm until the firework finale at 10.30pm. It is a live extravaganza of music, dance, drama and the arts. There is a stage in the Walled Garden with performances by local schools, dance groups and youth bands in the afternoon followed by live groups and local bands in the evening. The bands include Crisis, Don Morrell’s Gin Mill Syncopators
and the fantastic Sticky Morales who wowed Hemlock Happening audiences in 2007.
Throughout the afternoon there are numerous field activities. These include the historical re-enactment group ‘Team Falchion’, a dog’s day out, and children’s fairground rides. There are also lots of have-a-go events such as archery, a climbing wall, art workshops, dance workshops, ‘have a go’ sports challenges, storytelling, giant games
and more. Why not take part in a mini-beast hunt with staff and volunteers from Attenborough Nature Reserve, or test out the ‘beer goggles’ on the ‘Health 4 U’ drop-in store? Come and find out about all the local groups that exist in your area and maybe become a new member. Groups represented include ‘The Walk and Talk Group’, Girl
Guides, Army Cadets, Rotary Club, Friends of Bramcote Old Tower Group, Community Celebration Group, local churches, Breakaway Ramblers and many more.
There are lots of refreshment stalls, strawberries and cream, cakes, ice cream vans, hot food take-aways serving a variety of English and world foods, and a beer tent sponsored by the events main sponsor Castlerock Breweries. And, of course, you can bring your own picnic if you wish. There is a strict ‘no fundraising’ policy, so you can be
assured that you can enjoy all the activities on site (with notable exceptions of fair rides and archery – for insurance purposes) without having to put your hands in your pockets. The idea is for families to
be able to enjoy a genuinely free day out and having a really good time in the company of their friends and neighbours and, at the same
time, finding out about the amazing number of organisations, activities and talent in the local community.
