THE HISTORY
THE Salutation Inn, at the corner of Hounde-gate and St. Nicholas-street, Nottingham—or "Jew-lane’’ as it was anciently called—is one of the most picturesque and interesting houses that we have left.

Dating as it does from the Fifteenth Century, its customers must have drunk with glee on hearing the news of Henry V.’s victory at Agincourt or assembled in more sober mood upon receipt of the accounts of Joan of Arc’s prowess.

It was a typical mediaeval dwelling-house and shop of the better sort such as might be found throughout England during the Wars of the Roses.

Its sign refers to the salutation "Ave Maria, plene gratia," given by the Archangel Gabriel to the Blessed Virgin; and as this sign was not infrequently associated with inns belonging to religious houses, an idea exists that this inn may have been the guest-house of either the Carmelite or the Franciscan friary of Nottingham

The Salutation Inn has always had a reputation of being a Rock Pub but after a short spell in the wilderness its back as Nottingham's #1 Rock Pub.

The Salutation is steeped in history and has many a tale to tell. There is a downstairs bar being a place to meet and have a chat and sit in one of the many smaller rooms. The upstairs bar is for the hard core Rock Fan with Heavy Metal Karaoke on a Friday hosted by DJ Roy Da Boy plus Live Bands on every Saturday night followed by DJ Johnny Fangs and DJ Nikki Sikk playing music to suit the most eccletic of tastes. The Sal also has a labyrinth of caves underneath it, which also have there fare share of ghost sitings.

The Salutation is also the meeting place for the Nottingham Ghost Walk on a Saturday Night meet in the downstairs bar at 18.55 discover the delights of Nottingham's haunted past and finnish off in the caves to hear some ghostly tales.
